Event Description

Faced with armed conflict and violent unrest, civilians in the Arab world are left vulnerable to threats of violence and great deprivations. In this turmoil, Arab women are finding ways to serve as intermediaries and peacemakers in their communities. This informal discussion, led by Alma Abdul-Hadi Jadallah from Kommon Denominator, will allow dialogue facilitators and conflict resolution practitioners to share their field experiences and discuss the challenges and opportunities faced by NGOs when seeking to strengthen the work of local peace-makers in the Arab world.

Speaker

Dr. Alma Abdul-Hadi Jadallah is a scholar and conflict resolution practitioner with close to 20 years of experience working in conflict and post conflict zones. She provides technical expertise at the national and international levels on identity-based conflicts, gender mainstreaming and women’s empowerment, social cohesion strategies, and political process design. She is an expert mediator and facilitator.

Sarah Peyton is a CNVC Certified Trainer, Mediator and Neurosciences educator. Founder of Empathy Brain, Sarah offers training that supports the easy integration of learning about the brain with effective strategies for clear communication and effective mediation. She teaches and lectures internationally, teaches communication at the college level, and has been published in North America and Europe on Non-violent Communication (NVC) and Interpersonal Neuro-biology (IPNB). Her work focuses on how we hear and understand one another, effective ways to connect hearts, and developing flexibility, responsiveness and clarity.
